Danakil Depression

The Danakil Depression is a surreal, otherworldly landscape of bubbling sulphur springs, vast salt flats and the active Erta Ale volcano, sitting more than 100 metres below sea level in Ethiopia's far northeast.

It is one of the hottest and lowest places on Earth, home to the Afar people and their traditional salt caravans, and among the most striking landscapes anywhere on the planet.
