3-Day Bale Mountains Trek Itinerary

Meet your Bale Mountains trekking guide at Robe Airport and transfer by 4x4 to Dinsho, headquarters of Bale Mountains National Park, for park registration. Begin trekking toward Sodota Campsite through grassland, woodland and spectacular mountain scenery, with a stop around Finch Habera Waterfall for photography. Watch for Ethiopian wolves, giant mole rats, mountain nyala, Menelik's bushbuck and birds of prey along the way. Trekking time approximately 5–6 hours.

Overnight: Sodota campsite

After breakfast at camp, trek from Sodota to Adely across the open Afro-alpine landscape and the Web Valley area, watching for the Ethiopian wolf, giant mole rat and a range of endemic bird species. As the trail continues toward Adely the vegetation and wildlife shift into woodland, with spectacular mountain views and good opportunities for wildlife photography. Trekking time approximately 5–6 hours, reaching elevations above 3,000 m.

Overnight: Adely campsite

After an early breakfast, trek from Adely toward the Gaysay Grassland/Dinsho area, enjoying the changing scenery from woodland to open grassland. Wildlife viewing around Gaysay may include mountain nyala, Menelik's bushbuck, warthog, grey duiker and reedbuck — a great last chance for wildlife and bird photography before meeting your vehicle for the drive to Robe Airport and your onward flight.
